Miley piles on the jewelry Madonna-style

By Bernadette Morra

When Miley Cyrus took to the red carpet in Madrid for the international premiere of Hannah Montana: The Movie, she was channeling another superstar singer: Madonna.

The multiple bracelets, the piled-on necklaces, the mix of metal and black and the cross all hark back to 1983 when struggling but street-smart Madonna was still a rising star.

Madonna cleverly crafted her look herself on a shoestring budget. But she captured the imaginations of millions of young women who ran out and bought lace gloves, flouncy skirts and crateloads of costume jewelry.

Times have changed. Singers now have the benefit of borrowing jewels and designer clothes. Fashion stylists act as brokers to the luxury houses and help Hollywood’s hottest prep for the paparrazzi.

So it is with Miley. Here she wears Ted Rossi studded bracelets, a Lulu Frost Black Sterling Bib necklace, and H.Stern’s Golden Stones black diamond ring.

It’s a polished take on early-‘80s Madonna. And Miley’s influence will likely be just as potent. Her film earned more than $100 million at the box office in the U.S. alone, before opening globally – proof of her appeal.

But rather than sassy sex goddess, Miley sends a different message – the perky girl-next-door who breezily mixes real and faux gems.
