Singer outblings Beckham at Hollywood party

There is a photo from Elton John’s 17th annual post-Oscar bash of the singer with Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Parker. Guess who is wearing the most jewels?

In fact, John appears to have donned more diamonds for the occasion than the two women combined.

What fun.

With Chopard as an event co-sponsor John didn’t hold back, slinging the jeweller’s diamond lariat over his black t-shirt, and snapping a diamond timepiece from the Elton John Watch Collection on his wrist. Chopard’s 5-carat square brilliant diamond swung from John’s right ear. The only colour in his ensemble came from the rosy orange lenses of his eyewear.

John’s partner David Furnish, the event’s co-host, also wore a watch from John’s collection as well as Chopard’s Happy Diamond ring.

The party was held at the Pacific Design Center in a custom-built tent adorned in black and cream "supper club" decor. A reception featuring Godiva chocolate martinis was followed by a five-course meal including risotto decorated with crystallized natural flowers.

Guests viewed the 81st Annual Academy Awards en masse, then were tempted by a live auction where two jewel-encrusted 10th Anniversary Elton John AIDS Foundation collection watches designed by Chopard went for $250,000 each. The opportunity to dance with Ellen DeGeneres on her Emmy Award winning talk show sold for $20,000 while a one-hour tennis lesson with Andy Roddick went for $31,000. A three-day, four-night stay at the Normandy, France home of the Forbes family, Chateau de Balleroy, brought a winning bid of $80,000.

The event raised nearly $4 million for the Elton John Aids Foundation. And there’s no telling how many men were inspired to raid their wives’ jewelry boxes.
