Dainty they are not. But the trend right now in bracelets is big, bold and beautiful. And why not. Costume jewelry has reached proportions that border on grotesque – witness the saucer-sized earrings at Christian Lacroix’s spring 2009 couture show in Paris. Jewellers, grounded in the realities of working with precious materials, have much more sensible fare to offer, with no less drama or impact. At the 66th annual Golden Globe awards, Mad Men’s January Jones snapped on a stunning vintage piece from Van Cleef & Arpels' private collection: the 1939 Ludo Hexagone diamond bracelet, a trompe l'oeil belt buckle set in platinum. Viola Davis and Brooke Burke both wore eye-catching bracelets by H. Stern. Rene Zellweger shone in a pair of yellow gold cuffs by Verdura. And Demi Moore wore multiple ‘30s platinum and diamond bracelets by Cartier totaling more than $1 million. The classic line bracelet, too, has swelled into a multi-row affair. Kate Winslet attended the Globes in a 47 carat, five-row bracelet by Chopard while Mary Louise Parker wore a 60 carat aascher-cut diamond Chopard cuff. Yellow diamond bracelets have been popular, too, of late. Jenna Fischer of The Office donned a 21 carat channel set fancy yellow diamond bracelet by Chopard for the Golden Globes. Jennifer Lopez wore a yellow diamond bracelet out on inauguration night. KEYWORDS: fine jewelry, diamond bracelets, Chopard, H. Stern
