Her Loree Rodkin earrings say it all. Michelle Obama is smart, sophisticated, modern and willing to think outside the box. Exactly what America needs in The White House. That earrings should come to symbolize the mood surrounding Barack Obama’s inauguration as 44th President of the United States should come as no surprise. No handbag, shoe or dress can possibly express what a piece of jewelry can. Rodkin's goth-inspired designs have been worn by Marilyn Manson, Cher and Madonna, who told a radio show that Rodkin jewelry was the only gift she wanted for her 50th birthday. Not exactly your typical White House fare. At the Inauguration Ball, Obama beamed in Rodkin's white gold and triple rose cut diamond earrings with garland diamond briolette drops. The shoulder dusters were accompanied by Rodkin's white gold and black rhodium rose cut diamond signet ring and white gold diamond bangles. The day before the swearing in ceremony, Obama delivered a speech at the ''Kids inaugural: We Are The Future" concert wearing Rodkin's diamond and green sapphire briolette drops over a silver lace top and chartreuse sweater jacket from J.Crew. Two days prior, Obama appeared on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the “We are One” concert in Rodkin’s white gold and diamond quatrefoil earrings with black diamond centers. The pair were borrowed from Chicago boutique Ikram, where they retail for $17,313 U.S. The earrings topped a black-lined camel coat, a camel skirt and black silk beaded top and scarf, all by New York-based designer Narciso Rodriguez. Rodkin and Rodriguez were also the First Lady’s choice on Election night, when she wore Rodkin’s white gold and diamond triple drops over a black and red Rodriguez dress and cardigan. But lest you think she is getting predictable, Obama chose classic diamond studs for her husband's swearing in and numerous other occasions in recent months. Obama’s style choices illustrate her confidence, strength and authenticity. "Michelle Obama is our symbol of hope, courage, integrity and impeccable style," Rodkin commented to FirstwaterNews.com. "Her fashion choices are classic with a twist." “It’s about smarts. It’s about being urbane,” Michael Kors told WWD. “What [the Obamas] represent is that you can be smart, you can be sophisticated, you can be well-read, you can be accomplished and you can be attractive at the same time.” “Is there anything more glamorous than Michelle and Barack Obama?” Isaac Mizrahi also told WWD. “There’s nobody more glamorous than them. Totally, no.” And from Donna Karan: “When I look at them and I hear them and I see them, and their sense of style and grace and humbleness and clarity and strength, I think they really are iconic. I think people search their whole life to become what they emanate.” KEYWORDS: Fine jewelry, Designer jewelry, Loree Rodkin, Michelle Obama
