It didn't seem to matter whether Hollywood's leading ladies chose to go low key in a basic black pantsuit or full-on glam in a flowing gown for the 35th annual People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Either way drop and shoulder-duster earrings were the fine jewelry of choice. Amethyst, pink tourmaline, smoky quartz and diamond drops from H. Stern's Cobblestone collection sparkled atop show host Queen Latifah's violet George Chakra gown. Debra Messing, star of The Starter Wife and one of the evening's presenters, also opted for jewelry by H. Stern. Gold leaf-shaped earrings from H. Stern's Hera collection echoed the origami-like folds of Messing's black strapless dress by Donna Karan. Jennifer Morrison, star of winning show House, topped a gold geometrically-beaded dress with H.Stern's free-form Zephyr earrings in 18 kt Noble gold and diamonds. Kate Hudson chose the work of another Brazilian - Jack Vartanian - to boost a teal one-shoulder gown by Gucci. Vartanian's oversize black hoops were suspended from gold fan-shaped drops - an Art Deco touch that Vartanian has made a signature. Lorraine Schwartz's geometric diamond drops swung from beneath Christina Applegate's bob. The star wore a black Jenny Packham gown with crystal shoulder and midriff detailing. Katherine Heigl was also in black - a shapely pantsuit by Dolce & Gabbana with cream satin corset. That made the main attraction of her ensemble rose cut diamond and pearl shoulder-dusters by Bochic. Marisa Tomei was one of the few A-listers to opt for a statement necklace. Her cascade of clear, teardrop-shaped stones was suspended over a scarlet strapless dress by Donna Karan. KEYWORDS: fine jewelry, People's Choice Awards, H Stern, Jack Vartanian
