Diamond dreams

A killer peony, an Egyptian revival and classic hoops

By Bernadette Morra

Talk about fatal attraction.

On the occasion of the 2nd Annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Dubai recently, Salma Hayek wore a diamond necklace and earrings from Boucheron’s Fleurs Fatales Collection.

The Fleur Fatale grouping features five motifs inspired by mythical femme fatales. The suite worn by Hayek is called Botane and represents a flower’s life cycle in three stages – the bud, the blossom and the fading bloom - each crafted from white, yellow and pink diamonds. The flower is a peony, which according to Asian myth has the power to transform into a young woman of irresistible charms. How appropriate.

Three nights later in New York, Sally Morrison, director of the Diamond Information Center, pinned a diamond brooch to the plunging neckline of her little black dress for the 12th Annual Treatment Action Group Research in Action Awards.

The 18 karat white gold diamond, onyx, ruby and emerald brooch is in the Egyptian Revival Style and is from Camilla Dietz Bergeron in New York. The Madison Ave. salon specializes in antique, period and estate jewelry and has an extensive collection of one-of-a-kind pieces.

Morrison was honored at the event with an award presented by Academy Award Nominated Actress, activist and friend Julianne Moore wearing a pair of large diamond hoops.
