To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its most iconic timepiece, Chanel has unveiled a professional diving version of the popular J12. The new J12 Marine is an authentic diving watch that is water resistant to a depth of 300 metres. The second and minute hands are luminous, so they can be read even when submerged at great depths. A unidirectional rotating bezel is graduated to 60 minutes for easy, accurate reading of immersion times. The ceramic strap of the J12 has been replaced with high tech rubber in the diving version, though ceramic remains on the case shoulders and a ceramic cabochon has been added to the crown. The matte rubber strap is notched to allow the free-flow of water and eliminate suction. The caseback of the J12 Marine is engraved with stylized waves, a stylish touch. The J12 Marine comes in 38 mm and 42 mm and three styles: all-white, all black and black and blue. All three versions have a self-winding mechanical movement and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating which is colourless for the white, and tinged blue for the black. The J12 Marine is priced from around $5,000. The J12 watch was launched 10 years ago, and named for a class of luxury racing yachts that were built during the '30s. Very few J-class sailboats exist today, because they are so expensive to build.
