Boucheron honours Cirque du Soleil in diamonds and sapphires

By Bernadette Morra

The energy and movement of Cirque de Soleil has been captured in a necklace collection by Boucheron.

The Inspiria collection is composed of 20 necklaces each inspired by a Cirque du Soleil show.

Quidam is represented by diamond strands piercing a black and white diamond and ruby mask, all set in white gold.

East meets West in Dralion, a necklace in which a dragon and lion blend to form a unique creature depicted in orange and yellow sapphires, rubies, diamonds and emeralds set in yellow gold. Dralion stands for the quest for harmony, and can be worn as a brooch.

Criss Angel Believe has been honoured in sapphires with a black prince peering through rabbit ears, bows and petticoat flounces. The purple drop sapphires, yellow, pink and purple sapphires and rubies are set in blackened gold.

The necklaces are on view in an exclusive presentation at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts until August 29, 2010. Montreal is the home of Cirque du Soleil, founded there in 1975 by Guy Laliberté. To celebrate the troupe's 25th anniversary, Laliberté teamed with Jean-Christophe Bédos, CEO of Boucheron. Their resulting necklaces are a triumph of time, talent and attention to detail. The complicated, assymetrical and whimsical forms also push the boundaries of fine jewelry design. What a perfect way to honour the group that revolutionized the notion of what a circus can be.
