Diamonds and designer bags
Birkins included in Christie's jewelry sale
By Bernadette Morra
Christie's is bringing together two of a girl's best friends: diamonds and designer handbags.
On Nov. 19, Christie's South Kensington will auction the best selection of Hermes handbags ever - along with vintage and contemporary jewelry.
A selection of 66 vintage and new Hermes bags will be included in the jewelry sale. The bags date from the '60s to the present day and include a vast array of skins and colours. Estimates range from £700 to £30,000.
A distinctive assortment of jewelry rounds out the sale. Highlights include a diamond stepped design ring (£800 to 1,200), a late 13th century/early 14th century gold and sapphire ring (£6,000 to 8,000), and a diamond set inlaid steel bangle (£800 to 1,200).
But it is the much-coveted Birkin bags that are the big draw. Here is a small taste of what's on offer:
An orange suede Kelly, 2004 £3,000 to 4,000
A blue jean Birkin, 2007 £4,000 to 5,000
A navy blue Birkin, 2002, £4,000 to 6,000
A beige fringed Birkin, specially commissioned by the current owner in 2009, £7,000 to 10,000
A fuchsia crocodile Birkin, 2007, £20,000 to 22,000
An amethyst crocodile Birkin 2008, £22,000 to 25,000
