Watch is perfectly timed to help

Leave it to Gucci creative director Frida Giannini to get the timing of this watch just right.

The special edition Gucci Twirl is in black PVD - a hot look in watches and perfectly suited to fall 2009’s edgy biker chic trend.

The Gucci Twirl in black PVD and black diamonds has a sleek bracelet decorated with the house's signature double-G motif and a monochrome dial. Black diamonds trim the watch’s novel rotating case that spins so the piece can be worn as a bracelet or a watch.

The watch, priced at $1,895 U.S., is engraved with the words “Gucci for FFAWN”  and will benefit Mary J Blige’s Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now.

FFAWN is an organization that the singer founded with marketing pioneer Steve Stoute to help women with difficult backgrounds build their confidence and self-esteem.

On Sept. 16, Gucci will donate a percentage of the day’s sales of the limited edition Twirl at its Fifth Avenue flagship to FFAWN, as well as sales of the watch in other Gucci stores and select department and specialty stores in the U.S. and Canada. Blige will attend an invitation-only cocktail party to celebrate the endeavour at the New York flagship the same evening.

“Mary J inspires all of us with her songs, and now through her commitment to the empowerment of disadvantaged young women,” Giannini said.
