Pulling myself out of the fog that has enveloped me since my mother’s recent and unexpected death has proved more challenging than I ever would have imagined. Beside it I found a courier package from Chanel that I vaguely recall receiving sometime in the last 11 days. Inside were four books from the Basel 2009 trade fair. There’s nothing like a blinged-out J12 to pull one out of a funk. The latest collection maintains the signature sporty look and ceramic material that has made the J12 a star since its launch in 2000. But in its newest incarnation, the ceramic has been cut into black baguettes echoing the silhouette of the black diamonds that adorn numerous other models of the J12. The J12 Noir Intense feature 502 black ceramic baguettes set into the watch face and wristband and the J12 3125 movement created in partnership with Audemars Piguet. The J12 Noir Intense comes in a series of 5 numbered pieces. The J12 Haute Joaillerie style combines white diamonds with black ceramic baguettes. It comes in a limited edition of 12 pieces in three sizes: 42 mm, 38 mm and 33 mm. Still, as popular as the J12 is, looking over Chanel’s latest press materials the watch that captures my heart is the Fil de Camelia. With a blossom of 338 diamonds set in 18 kt yellow gold, it’s too flowery for my taste. But it’s just the sort of thing mom would have loved.
