The current mood may be calling for some restraint. But bling is still in as Hollywood prepares for the 2009 Golden Globe awards. Several days prior to the main event, celebrities attended the 8th Annual A Diamond Is Forever and InStyle Magazine Golden Globes Diamond Preview which took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Taraji P Henson, Debra Messing, Frieda Pinto, Sarah Chalke, Garcelle Beauvais Nilon, Maria Bello, Sarah Jane Morris, Lisa Rinna, Oliva Wilde, Constance Zimmer, Emily VanCamp and Rumer Willis were treated to a fashion show featuring diamond jewelry from Bulgari, Chanel, Neil Lane, Martin Katz, Lorraine Schwartz, Fred Leighton, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, Camilla Deitz Bergeron and Stephen Russell – all of whom are no strangers to the carpet. Messing wore a silky draped dress and double-stranded diamond drops. Maria Bello’s shapely teal dress was dressed up with Martin Katz diamond studs and a diamond cuff. Lorraine Schwartz told WWD that in preparation for the Golden Globes, stylists were looking for colorful stones in unusual cuts and settings, “which is important for the industry, because creating new ideas for customers, whether they go buy the original or a copy, is important for stimulating the economy right now.” Still, showiness is expected to be passé. While Schwartz extolled the unique, she stressed, “It’s not about a 200-carat necklace.” KEYWORDS: Fine jewelry, Golden Globes, Lorraine Schwartz
