Still stumped about what to get a special someone? This isn’t the time to start researching jewelers. And forget comparison shopping. Your best bet is to go with the tried and true. Get yourself to a major established brand where quality is ensured. There’s a reason companies such as Tiffany & Co. have been around for more than 100 years. These are retailers who understand that their reputation depends on quality and consistency and they do whatever they can to ensure they deliver. That is why jewelry that is stamped with a well-known maker always does well when it comes up at auction, even in tight economic times such as these. And though top houses do extraordinarily expensive pieces with magnificent gems, their bread and butter is at lower price points with broader appeal. For instance, Tiffany & Co. has a vast assortment in the under $1,000 range. Their selection of sterling silver is broad, and includes some amusing holiday-themed charms. A candy cane striped with enamel in Tiffany’s signature aqua blue is $145 Cdn. Famous designs by legends such as Elsa Peretti and Frank Gehry also ring in at under $1,000. Gehry’s F.O.G. pendant in brushed silver is $245. Peretti’s carnelian disc on a sterling chain is $430. And of course, it doesn’t matter how much, or how little you spend, everything comes packaged in the iconic Tiffany blue box. And that’s a thrill all its own.
